Tras el anuncio de dos pesos pesados del indie rock del calibre de Pavement y Pixies, llega la primera tanda de artistas confirmados para el décimo aniversario de San Miguel Primavera Sound, que se celebrará en Barcelona del 27 al 29 de mayo de 2010.

Como muchos sabéis se está desarrollando una encuesta entre nuestro público a través del foro del festival y, en esta ocasión, confirmamos dos grupos que se unirán a la celebración de nuestro aniversario el próximo mayo: Wilco, posiblemente la banda de rock americano más importante del último lustro, y los británicos The Fall comandados por Mark E. Smith, un grupo crucial para entender la música actual.

Les acompañan una serie de artistas de distinto pelaje, entre los que cabría destacar a Panda Bear, alias de Noah Lennox de Animal Collective dedicado a la experimentación partiendo del pop. También desembarcará en el Parc del Forum Hope Sandoval, la ex vocalista de Mazzy Star que estará acompañada de The Warm Inventions.

Desde Inglaterra llegan dos de los grupos que más revuelo mediático nos han dado este año, The XX con su pop oscuro y meláncolico y Wild Beasts, una banda que ha sabido desmarcarse de modas y hypes ofreciendo un sonido fresco y rotundo.

El apartado electrónico está cubierto por el dúo enmascarado The Bloody Beetroots, candidatos a ser el nuevo boom de la música de baile en los próximos meses, el dubstep del británico Joker junto a Nomad y la reunión del grupo escocés de electropop Bis.

Como viene siendo habitual, los nuevos valores de la independencia americana estarán bien representados con la visita deThe Antlers, autores de uno de los discos del 2009,  el folk pop de los pujantes Here We Go Magic, el fuzz pop de Dum Dum Girls y la psicodelia lo-fi de Ganglians.

La música que se hace en nuestro país cuenta con dos confirmaciones importantes y claramente antagónicas. Por un lado estarán Delorean, un veterano grupo que este año ha conseguido por fin conquistar UK y Estados Unidos con su rock electrónico. Por el otro, una actuación muy especial en la que, bajo el título “Camarón, La Leyenda Del Tiempo, 30 Años Después”, un elenco de nombres indispensables del flamenco actual (entre ellos Duquende y Chicuelo) rendirá tributo a uno de los discos más sobresalientes de nuestra cultura musical.

El power pop de los canadienses The New Pornographers, un grupo que se ha convertido en un clásico de esta década, también recalará en la décima edición de San Miguel Primavera Sound.

Los abonos para San Miguel Primavera Sound 2010 están a la venta a un precio de 95 € (+ gastos de distribución) hasta el 30 de noviembre. A partir del 1 de diciembre los abonos costarán 99 € (+ gastos de distribución).

En el New York Times le presentan como a un hombre de familia que prepara barbacoas, pero las canciones de Wilco (the álbum) siguen girando en torno a la soledad esencial en que nos movemos los humanos.
No disiento. Aprecio que haya escuchado la música y entendido eso a partir de lo que he escrito y cantado. Pero si tuviera que decir exactamente de qué van las letras inhibiría toda la amplitud de interpretaciones que deben estar ahí, abiertas para cada uno.

¿Me diría en pocas palabras un eslogan sobre el disco?
Ése no es mi trabajo. Sólo quiero hacer la música, no explicarla.

Tiene usted una gran colección de discos cuyo efecto se aprecia en cada uno de los de Wilco. ¿Cuáles están en éste?
Ninguno conscientemente. Creo que las cosas pasan y las reconoces más tarde, cuando escuchas. Hay una jerarquía del rock en la mente de todos nosotros y por eso vemos toques de los Beatles, Bob Dylan,
la Velvet Underground… Y así sigue

Por cierto, ¿cuántos discos tiene?
Uff… No sé, nunca los he contado.

¿Hay alguno personalmente valioso?
El single Magic, del grupo Pilot. Fue el primer disco que compré y tiene un gran valor sentimental para mí.

Es usted una estrella, influyente y apreciada. ¿Está cómodo en el papel de mensajero que le otorgan algunos?
Puedes enviar el mismo mensaje una y otra vez hasta el final de los tiempos… Todo está dicho, pero no todo el mundo lo ha dicho. Envías un mensaje incluso con la melodía. Los mensajes se cruzan en tu camino y las palabras ocurren, sólo tienes que rendirte a ellas.

¿Dónde estaba cuando murió Michael Jackson?
En Los Ángeles. Mi mujer estaba llorando. Le pregunté por qué y así me enteré. Honestamente, no soy la persona a quién preguntar. En ese tipo de cultura me veo como una especie de monstruo. No siento el morbo. Michael Jackson nunca fue parte de mi vida.

Pero tendrá una opinión sobre el gran carnaval que se ha montado.
Es grotesco. Tengo sentimientos encontrados. No puedo pensar en otra figura en mi vida, y a lo mejor en toda la historia, tan dañada, tan enferma y tan engrandecida.

Veo cierto paralelismo entre Jackson y usted: él viajó de la luz a la oscuridad y usted parece haber seguido el camino contrario.
No estoy en desacuerdo. Creo que la vida hay que disfrutarla y parte del truco es aprender a tratar con ella. No es fácil y a veces sufres. Puedes interiorizar los problemas o utilizar narcóticos para lidiar con ellos.

Usted fue un narcoadicto y ha hablado con sinceridad de sus migrañas, depresión, ataques de pánico… ¿Tiene miedo de volver a caer?
Sigo teniendo migrañas, pero ya no tengo miedo de ellas. He aprendido a llevarlas conmigo. La enfermedad y el sufrimiento contienen un camino y lo muestran.

Wilco nos ama y nosotros también a ellos. Así nos lo hicieron saber con el estreno de su potente nuevo tema de agradecimiento a sus creyentes y futuro bis final de sus conciertos.
Aquel “Being There”, que fue directo a la selección de dobles antológicos junto al Blonde on Blonde, el Exile y el London Calling, fue el flechazo y el amor perdura, sólo que ahora es más sólido y más cómplice.
Y les puedo hasta perdonar que ayer tuvieran a tanto roadie cambiando guitarras vintage y sin embargo, ni a un miserable técnico de sonido en el patio de butacas que les dijera “we got to turn up the sound boys”
Aquello sonaba en la distancia y eso que estaba en séptima fila lateral y me tuve que cortar para cuidar mi alergía bronquial, de proferir ese grito mítico de “play fucking loud”
Sin embargo y pese a ello, factor muy importante ya que me mola que los bajos y la música me coja por ese sitio que mejor no nombro,desde ayer ya puedo decir que he completado el círculo o el curriculum: soy testigo de los tres momentos cruciales de la banda entre las bandas de este blog y del planeta. (con permiso de Radiohead, of course)
Siempre pensé que Wilco son una especie de macedonia The Band, The Beatles, aunque la verdad sea dicha, los son de todo lo esencial de la historia de este puñetero rock and roll, de TODO - TODO.(esto, por favor, pronunciarlo al unísono y al ritmo del golpe de Wilco-the song)
Primero, en la sala Askena de Vitoria, la experimentación con su nuevo sonido, conseguido en ese gigante que es “Yanke Hotel Foxtrot” pero todavía con mucho que aprender y pulir.
Después en el Euskalduna bilbaino, hace dos años y medio, donde presenciamos la catársis, el punto ese Royal Albert Hall de Bobby y sus Hawks, de cuando nace el sonido de la batida con el violaó-guitarra de Joao Gilberto y con ella la bossa, la grabación del “So What” de Miles o James y el “Papa´s got a brand new bag” pistoletazo del funk y Otis grabando “El muelle de la bahía” para dejar testamento y de heredero a Al Green para que desarrollara la idea.
Esto por algunos ejemplos dispares pero idénticos en espiritu..La divina creación y el big bang.
Ese instante efímero y dulce de reinado absoluto entre las propuestas musicales de calidad en el que derrepente aparece algo de la nada. O “un fantasma ha nacido” como el título de esa otra obra maestra tras “Yanke” que junto con el modesto pero todavía en crecimiento “Sky blue Sky” contituyen la trilogía más sublime que haya firmado un grupo en lo que va de decada. Bob ya lo hizó pero en solitario.
Ese punto algído, ese “highlight in the making”, ahí cocinado en tus narices y en directo.
Por edad, no pudimos ver, en aquellos maravillosos años,a los Beatles y ni siquiera a los Clash o a los Smiths o incluso a REM. Porque después de que les dan el título, todos se convierten en feriantes.Lo exhiben, viviendo del certificado.

Sin embargo, ayer en el Kursaal de Donosti Wilco se conviertieron en clásicos. Las canciones cayeron una tras otra como perlas del collar que les venga en gana hacer. Todas tienen de todo: ganchos, puentes, ruidos, estribillos, coros, solos, poses, actitud, momentos de levitación…Son perfectas en su receta.
Te invitan a vivir la vida con intensidad rockera. Son alegres, tienen buen rollo. Te hacen querer ser su groupie de por vida y seguirles su gira como un gitano.
Y como Young, pasando de pararse en todas las canciones concretas del bolo, es mejor reseñar aquellos momentos especiales.
¿A quien no le gustaría vivir dentro del dulce y excelso punteo de Impossibly Germany? ¿ O sumergido en esa ensoñación impresionista que es Muzzle of Bees? Y que decir de convertir en clásicos canciones que parecían menores sobre el cd como “Hate it here”: !Dios… qué buena versión! Juro que sentí vivo a John Lennon con su primal scream en Tweedy y me puse muy cardiaco. Fue el climax del concierto ya casi al final , en los bises. Increibles estrofas, potente estribillo a la “Come Together”
Y Hummingbird que es como si los Kinks y los Beatles hubieran hecho un ep conjunto con Strawberry Fields/Autumn Almanac y una compuesta mano a mano Ray y Paul para la ocasión. Tremendo con el micro Jeff y desarmado de cuerdas , haciendo poses de rock star de tres al cuarto e incluso tirándose al suelo en ese divino segundo puente en agudos melódicos, como nadie sabe hacer. Por cierto, no vamos a pasarnos de Jeff-céntricos, los otros cinco, todos son buenísimos y aparte de virtuosos con sus herramientas y cacharrería, hacen unas armonías vocales de primer orden.

Y ese toque tabasco que pone esa voz del ángel Jeff que ayer estaba realmente cachondo y sardónico. Me recordó a Antonio Vega por su urgencia vocal, su clase y por el humillo que sale por su boca. Me narcotiza, me cura, me seda, me …todo.
Ayer jorobó el bolo el sonido acartonado y poco potente del recinto, un poco de tocadiscos, como si escucharas un disco live en un equipo de discoteca. Es la primera vez que “La Meca” el Kursaal me decepciona como sala pero, poco a poco, se calentaron turbinas. Que es Wilco hombre, y además te ama.
Incluso el público se consiguió acelerar, se puso de pie en los bises y parecía que el milagro de un auditorio en pleno concierto de Grateful Dead-72 volviera a la vida, con espasmos incluidos del repsetable, despidiendo extasiado a los reyes del mambo.
Señores, hijo, futuros nietos…que lo sepan todos…un servidor vio hacerse clásicos a Wilco un miércoles y el domingo a Gengis Young dejando arrasada la Bella Easo. Demasiado para este maltrecho cuerpo polinizado y eso si cuento, además, el espléndido concierto de Joe Henry en Mondragón.
Según el diccionario clásicas son aquellas bandas que se tienen por modelos dignos de imitación o que, por su importancia o valor, han entrado a formar parte de la historia. Pues eso. Tomen nota. Se dirá The Band, The Beatles , The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Rolling Stones y además uno sin artículo, más raro, con nombre de detergente.
